PALMDALE — Much more than 450 people turned out Saturday afternoon at Marie Kerr Park for the 15th once-a-year Muslim Relatives Exciting Day.
The yearly event was sponsored by the American Islamic Institute of Antelope Valley in partnership with Islamic Centre of North Valley in Lancaster and Al-Umma Heart of Santa Clarita. The celebration highlighted food stuff and games, together with a tug of war.
The American Islamic Institute of Antelope Valley President Kamal Al-Khatib offered awards to Palmdale Mayor Pro Tem Laura Bettencourt, Councilman Juan Carrillo and Town Manager J.J. Murphy, for their guidance. Murphy also approved an award on behalf of Councilman Austin Bishop.
“This kind of occasion reveals that Palmdale welcomes everyone,” Carrillo stated. “We are a really varied group. We are very pleased to have you as aspect of our community and we just want to want you all achievements. We are here to companion with you.”
Al-Khatib also presented an award to Palmdale Sheriff’s Station Capt. Ron Shaffer and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Division Main Dennis Kneer. He is Shaffer’s predecessor at the Palmdale station.
“We cherish the partnership between our Muslim community, the Town of Palmdale and the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station,” Al-Khatib reported. “This year was quite special simply because we were being joined by Lancaster and Santa Clarita Muslims, way too.”
